OREANDA-NEWS. October 6, 2009. Belarus was ranked 68th in the annual UN Human Development Report 2009 published on 5 October and was listed among the high-HDI countries.

Belarus’ human development index equaled 0.826 (to compare: this index was 0.787 in 2000). The countries with HDI over 0.900 are considered as the countries with a very high human development index. Russia ranked 71st (0.817), Kazakhstan – 82nd (0.804), Armenia – 84th (0.798), Ukraine – 85th (0.796), Azerbaijan – 86th (0.787) and Moldova – 117th (0.720).

Norway topped the rating with its 0.971 HDI. Nigeria was registered as the lowest-HDI country – 0.340.

According to the UN Human Development Report 2009, the highest life expectancy is in Japan (82.7 years) and the lowest is in Afghanistan (43.6 years). Liechtenstein is a country with the highest GDP per capita, almost USD 85.400. Congo has the lowest GDP per capita, USD 298.
