Russian Coronas-Photon Detected Giant Outburst on the Sun
OREANDA-NEWS. April 20, 2009. A giant solar protuberance was detected by Russian observatory Coronas-Photon. The length of the outburst was 50 times as bis as diameter of the Earth.
"The solar transition layer research tools were observing the extraordinary protuberance within 10 hours. There was no visible activity on the edge of the Sun, and this giant outburt into space occured unexpectedly", state Lebedev Physical Institute experts.
Plasma substance was moving with the speed about several hundreds kms. However, the protuberance is under the solar magnetic force, so it may fall down on the Sun.
"Even if it overcomes this force, it hardly has a chance to reach the Earth. Interplanetary magnetic field lines in this area of the Sun pass by our planet. Though, these lines reach Mars. Thus, the life of object detected today may end on this planet in a few days", scientists say.
TESIS lab developed in Lebedev Physical Institute is used to monitor solar activity and current state of space weather. The researchers hope to get more data about crown warming-up, machanisms of solar bursts, nature of the solar cycle. More than million images of the Sun will be obtained during the experiment. Observationso of the giant protuberance will help Russian scientists to find out more about the structure of the solar magnetic field.
