Relief Workers Dismantles Radioactive Waste Storage in Gomel Oblast
OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2009. Relief workers are dismantling a radioactive waste storage in the Gomel oblast, Emergencies Minister of Belarus Enver Bariyev said during the national session on the emergencies prevention on March 20.
The Minister has said it is the Gomel-30 radioactive waste storage in the Rechitsa region that has left in Belarus after nuclear weapons withdrawal to Russia.
According to Enver Bariyev, the similar operation was held in the settlement of Kolosovo, the Minsk oblast, in 2008. 23 containers with radioactive waste were drawn out from the mine in Kolosovo and reburied.
The Minister added that relief workers are ready to continue such activity with the support of the local authorities.
