OREANDA-NEWS. On 19 February 2009 was announced, that in 2006 it was decided to develop a complex of preventive measures aimed at prevention of display of political and religious extremism in the Northwest regions. Therefore, the Strategy of preventive maintenance of extremism has been developed in Karelia, and the Plan of its implementation is approved annually. By the order of the Government of the republic signed by the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, the Plan of coordinated actions of all levels of authority for the Strategy implementation for 2009 has been approved. The plan includes normative, legal, scientific, methodical, social, economic, educational, information, analytical, organization, administrative, and preventive directions of teamwork.

According to the Plan this year it is supposed to increase the competence of experts working with youth and workers of educational establishments in the sphere of cooperation with national and religious organizations, preventive maintenance of extremism, to hold parents' meeting concerning teaching children and youth to be tolerant. Funds of libraries will receive books and editions promoting harmonization of national and confessional relations and development of peoples' languages and culture. The academic course of lifeskills will be supplemented with paragraphs on formation of tolerance and preventive maintenance of xenofobia.

In 2009 in the republic it is planned to carry the Multinational Karelia: Development of Interethnic Relations and Settlement of External Migration Problems International Workshop Conference, competition within the Best Project in the Sphere of Peace and Harmony Strengthening nomination.

Attention will be also paid to organization of temporary by-work for minors from 14 to 18 years for prevention of risk of display of extremism. The same purpose will have seminars to be held for employers on use of migratory legislation.

Besides, cultural and educational actions aimed at preventive maintenance of extremism and teaching intercultural competence will be organized.
