WHO Predicted the Emergence of a New Deadly Virus
OREANDA-NEWS. The new pandemic that mankind will sooner or later face may be even more dangerous than the coronavirus pandemic, said World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The head of WHO said, speaking at the opening of the 74th World Health Assembly: "This is not the last time the world faces the threat of a pandemic. There will be another virus that will be more infectious and deadly than this one."
According to the head of WHO, it is the fight against viruses that shows that states should cooperate with each other, and not compete.
“In fact, we are faced with a choice: to act together or be insecure,” he concluded.
The World Health Assembly runs from May 24 to June 1 in virtual format. The main theme of the 74th Session of the Assembly is the need to end the current pandemic as soon as possible and prepare for the next pandemic by building a healthier, safer and more just world.
In an online panel discussion hosted by the Paris Peace Forum on May 17, he recalled that high-income countries account for 15 percent of the world's population but have 45 percent of the world's vaccines. Low- and middle-income countries account for nearly half of the world's population, but they account for only 17 percent of vaccines. Gebreyesus summed up that the gap in the distribution of vaccines in different countries is really huge.
