OREANDA-NEWS. The United States allocated $650,000 to develop a broadband Internet connection between the Earth and the Moon. It is reported by Space.com.
Aquarian Space plans to connect the Earth, the Moon, and possibly Mars over the next few years with high-speed Internet, and this speed should be enough to watch streams in 4K resolution. The company has now received funding from venture capitalist Draper Associates.
Aquarian Space proposes to call its network Solnet, according to the plan, it will be built on the basis of commercially available high-speed satellite communication systems, and the transmission speed will reach hundreds of megabits per second. “In 2021, there were 13 landers, rovers and satellites on or near the Moon. By 2030 there will be more than 200, creating a multi-billion dollar lunar economy. But this is not possible without a reliable connection to the Earth,” the company said in a statement.
Aquarian Space is currently holding technical consultations with several companies that are already fulfilling lunar contracts for NASA. Technical details of the future system are scarce at the moment, but the company says users won't have to "change their systems" and adjust to their internet. Solnet is scheduled to launch in 2024.
