Three-Dimensional Quantum Spin Liquid Detected for the First Time
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS Scientists for the first time managed to detect three-dimensional quantum spin liquid. The full work is published in the scientific publication Nature Physics.
For the experiment, physicists used single crystals of the pyrochlore mineral with zirconium and cesium into it.
Quantum spin liquid is a special magnetic state of a solid material consisting of magnetic atoms. Most often can be located in single crystals. If in the overwhelming majority of substances the spins of electrons are mixed randomly and then they order in magnetic . In this case, in the quantum spin liquid, the spins of the electrons turn out to be disordered.
This causes an increased interest in this phenomenon.
