The US has Allowed Mandatory Booster doses for those Vaccinated against COVID-19
OREANDA-NEWS. The US may introduce the concepts of 'complete' and 'completed' vaccination levels once the country has gained sufficient experience with the products used for it. The latter involves administering three doses of vaccine for products from Pfizer and Moderna and two for a product from Johnson&Johnson. The announcement was made by Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Reuters reports.
"Right now, a full course of vaccination involves two mRNA [vaccines] (Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. - RBC) and one J&J vaccination, but no doubt that could change,"- he said. Fauci added that changes are already being discussed.
He said most US citizens who have completed their vaccination course should get a booster shot.
"We would like as many people as possible who have already been vaccinated under the first scheme to boost [their immunity],"- the infectious disease specialist said.
Fauci added that the booster vaccination provides better protection than the currently accepted vaccination scheme, according to studies.
On 19 November, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna coronavirus vaccines for revaccination of the entire adult population. The booster vaccination is available to anyone who has completed a full course of vaccination with one of the FDA-approved products, six months after the last vaccination. They must be at least 18 years old.
Previously, only immunocompromised patients could be given the booster vaccine.
