OREANDA-NEWS A new method of pancreatic transplantation without restoring arterial flow through the second artery has been developed at the N. V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, according to the website of the mayor and the government of Moscow.
"During the postoperative observation of patients, doctors noticed that in some cases blood enters the new pancreas only through one artery - the splenic, while the function of the organ is not impaired. Thanks to this observation, the institute's specialists have developed and successfully implemented a new method of pancreatic transplantation without restoring arterial flow through the second artery," the report says.
It is reported that at the moment about 10% of such operations are carried out at the institute using the new method. In August 2023, the scientists who developed this method received an official certificate of scientific discovery and commemorative medals named after Academician P. L. Kapitsa from the International Academy of Authors of Scientific Discoveries and Inventions of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
