OREANDA-NEWS. The chief profilactologist of the Ural Federal District, Doctor of Medical Sciences Sergei Tokarev said that the omicron coronavirus strain can begin to circulate endlessly due to its ability to be transmitted between animals and humans. He told about this in an interview with the portal Ura.ru.
“There is evidence that Omicron can be transmitted to rodents, and if the infection goes back and forth into the human population, it will be very bad. Thus, "Omicron" can circulate endlessly until it mutates again, "the specialist explained.
According to him, "omicron" very quickly supplants the "delta" strain, but it will take time to find out if it will supplant the previous mutation. Tokarev suggested that in some regions the "delta" will remain, and both strains will spread simultaneously.
Previously, associate professor of the Russian National Research Medical University named after V.I. N.I. Pirogov Mikhail Rozanov said that in the future new strains of coronavirus will be massively detected.
He noted that currently there are a large number of "mutants" of the coronavirus, but now there are available means of detecting them, which were not there before. Thanks to the pandemic, Rozanov pointed out, now more is known about viruses, "science has jumped to the next stage."
