OREANDA-NEWS. In Russia, the lethality from the Omicron coronavirus strain will not exceed 0.5%, in countries with a higher vaccination rate - 0.1-0.2%. Such an assessment was given on January 11 by the professor of virology, chief researcher of the N.N. N.F. Gamalei Anatoly Altstein.
“Now it is difficult to calculate this mortality very accurately, it will take more time, but in general it will most likely not exceed 0.5%, and, I think, where the countries are vaccinated, we are still an insufficiently vaccinated country, and should being vaccinated - there will be somewhere on the order of 0.1-0.2% mortality ", - quotes a specialist" Moscow 24 ".
Altstein noted that it is possible to track the appearance of Omicron in the population by a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19. He pointed out that if there is a sharp jump in the incidence in Russia, then at least 80-90% of cases will be associated with the Omicron strain.
Earlier that day, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the surge in the incidence of COVID-19 due to the Omicron strain indicates that this option continues to spread throughout the world, including in the Russian Federation.
Thus, he commented on the fact that on January 10, the number of cases in Moscow was 2,778, and on January 11 - 4,635. Also, over the past there was an increase in the incidence in the country as a whole: on January 10, 15,830 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded, and on January 11 - 17,525 cases.
Earlier, on December 30, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced that a test system had been created in Russia to identify the Omicron strain. According to her, at the moment, you need to learn how to prevent any new mutation of the coronavirus from entering the country. The head of the department also said that post-vaccination immunity after the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is sufficient to curb the spread of the Omicron strain.
