The Loudest Inhabitant of the Ocean was Discovered by Biologists
The strength of the sound emitted by the multi-bristle worm Leocratides kimuraorum exceeds the shock wave of the fighter - 140-157 decibels.
These worms were found off the east coast of the Japanese island of Honshu. They live at depths from 80 to 160 meters, settling in six-pointed sponges. Leocratides kimuraorum has a large mouth, and its entire body is covered with thin tentacles. Moreover, the length of the worm does not exceed 29 millimeters.
If two such worms turn out to be nearby, then they make a loud clicking sound, which literally repel each other. Biologists suggest that worms protect their territory and communicate in this way.
