OREANDA-NEWS The European Commission (EC) proposes to impose a ban on the export to Russia of components for electronics, various spare parts and vehicles, parts for jet engines, EC Chairman Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
"We propose to introduce export controls on 47 components for electronics that can be used in Russian weapons systems, including drones, missiles and helicopters," von der Leyen said in Strasbourg.
In addition, the EC proposes to introduce export control over the supply of rare earth materials and thermal imagers, as well as goods for the construction sector.
"We propose to introduce further export bans worth more than 11 billion euros in order to deprive the Russian economy of important technologies and industrial goods. We will pay attention to such important goods as electronics, special vehicles, machine parts, spare parts for trucks and jet engines," she said.
According to von der Leyen, the EC proposes to replenish the sanctions lists, including journalists and the military of the Russian Federation. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrel, in turn, clarified that almost 100 individuals and legal entities can be included in these lists.
"I am making a proposal to impose sanctions on almost 100 individuals and structures," Borrel said.
The head of the EC also said that the EU will also impose sanctions against non-Russian structures for the first time due to the fact that they are related to the supply of dual-use goods to the Russian Federation. She clarified that we are talking about seven organizations in Iran.
In addition, von der Leyen said that the EU will monitor attempts by Russian entrepreneurs to "hide or sell assets in order to avoid sanctions." She promised to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation frozen in the jurisdiction of the European Union, which the EU can then use to restore Ukraine. The head of the EC added that Brussels is working with EU states, partner countries of the bloc and other forces to prevent Russia from circumventing sanctions.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council announced that the permanent representatives of the EU countries approved the formation of a working group to apply the blocked assets of the Russian Federation in the interests of restoring Ukraine.
The EU previously reported that they plan to introduce the next, tenth package of sanctions against Russia at the end of February.
