The Doctor Told How Coronavirus Affects Sleep
OREANDA-NEWS. The number of people suffering from insomnia has increased in connection with the pandemic, and it has grown like an avalanche. These observations were shared by the President of the Russian Society of Somnologists, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences Roman Buzunov.
Buzunov at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya news agency, timed to coincide with World Sleep Day, celebrated on March 19, said: "If there were no more requests in April - insomnia after coronavirus, then by September they appeared, and then they grew like an avalanche and now, in March 2021, 3-4 thousand requests per month are directly specific - insomnia after coronavirus. That is, the frequency of insomnia has definitely increased significantly. "
According to the doctor, the coronavirus itself is a severe psychological stress that can lead to anxiety, depression and insomnia. The debate about whether the coronavirus damages sleep centers is still ongoing, the expert noted. The direct effect of the virus on sleep-regulating centers has not yet been proven.
The doctor added that there are many more people who have not been sick with coronavirus, but still have insomnia, including due to stress due to the "toxic information cloud."
