OREANDA-NEWS. The international group of scientists published results of a research in which it is told how plants "help" with spread of viruses and infections.

The mechanism of "sneezing" of plants (ejections of drops because of a superficial tension) allows viruses, bacteria and mushrooms to extend quicker on fields and to strike more plants.

On leaves of many plants big drops roll down down quickly, but small drops remain and easily merge, and at excess of energy of their superficial tension energy becomes kinetic that leads to dumping of drops. This is also the mechanism nicknamed "sneezing". Small drops from plants fly up on height to five millimeters, and at this moment they are picked up by wind. Thus, the infected drop gets on healthy plants.

Earlier researchers from the University of Iowa developed a system for creation of three-dimensional images of cereals and herbs. Development will allow to understand better the mechanism of pollination and conditions for growth of crops.
