OREANDA-NEWS. Coronavirus reduces the level of male hormones, but after recovery, fertility rates return to normal, Sechenov University said. Scientists examined 88 men for six months, of which half had COVID-19. Ultrasound did not show any inflammation or blood flow disorders in the genitals of men.
According to the university, the patients had problems with hormonal status. It turned out that the virus "significantly reduces the level of male hormones." But three months after recovery, all indicators return to normal, the researchers noted. “We came to the conclusion that the impact on the hormonal system occurs at the peak of the disease,” said the principal investigator, Professor Dmitry Enikeev (quoted by RIA Novosti).
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in 2020 spoke about the possible negative impact of COVID-19 on the reproductive function of men and women due to the “hypothetically” admissible entry of the virus into the genitals. To avoid risks, the ministry recommended getting vaccinated. Spanish scientists said that physical activity reduces the risk of contracting coronavirus.
Scientists recommended urologists-andrologists to study the problem better. Nevertheless, according to the scientists, the results of the study should be perceived as a whole. Mens' libido can be influenced by biochemical, anatomical and psychosocial factors, the researchers added.
