Scientists have Created a Device Simulating Biological Memory
OREANDA-NEWS. A device that simulates biological memory was invented by scientists at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). The development may become the basis for future neuromorphic computers, the university’s press service said on Wednesday.
"Memristors, in which bridges of nanoparticles act as resistances, will collapse too quickly, so we decided to improve them with a ferroelectric. Our more reliable mechanism allows us to carry out hundreds of billions of switching cycles, after which the memory cells continue to work properly," says an employee of the laboratory of neural computing systems MIPT Anastasia Chuprik, lead author of the study.
It is assumed that neurocomputers will be able to solve problems that only supercomputers can do now, but will use an insignificant amount of electricity for this.
