Scientists from Novosibirsk will Develop a Sign Language Translator
According to plans, the program will be available in December. Now the translator is able to recognize individual words, but the creators plan to teach the system computer algorithms that will build whole sentences in different languages of the world.
According to linguists, sign languages are the most difficult in the world to learn, as one awkward movement can radically change the meaning of a word.
A presidential grant in the amount of 10 million rubles for the implementation of the project was received by a researcher at the university Alexei Prikhodko. It is noted that the developer, like his relatives, is deaf, so he has been dealing with communication issues for a long time.
“We are experiencing problems in communicating with the hearers, we have to involve translators. His services are expensive. I tried to develop a system that helped at least partially replace the translator, but that it was free and available to everyone, ”he explained.
Earlier in October, the Grozny State Petroleum Technical University began developing a language module in the Chechen language for a robot consultant. The residents of the "Highpark" together with the "Promobot" company took part in the project. The initiative to teach the robot the Chechen language is planned to be implemented next year.
