Scientists Explain the Cause of the Smoke Plume in the Atmosphere of Mars
Mars is devoid of a magnetic field that could provide it protection from the solar wind. Its atmosphere is quite discharged, and its composition includes methane and a small amount of oxygen formed by photodissociation of carbon dioxide.
The emergence of a smoke plume on an area of 915 km is not due to volcanic activity or fires. Mars has a group of sleeping “mountains of fire”, but astronomers have never noticed their eruption. Probably, the anomaly found in the atmosphere is ordinary clouds. Winds on Mars carry debris over vast distances. When the air is in colder regions with low pressure, it forms clouds of various shapes.
