OREANDA-NEWS Dmitry Morev, Information Security Director of the RuStore app store, named mobile applications that are most often forged by scammers. The expert told in a conversation with RIA Novosti about which programs Russians should download with caution.
According to Morev, the applications of banks, exchanges and cryptocurrency wallets are the most counterfeited. Also, as the IT expert noted, attackers often fake popular applications with a large audience and programs related to new developments that are well-known to everyone, for example, with a neural network.
As a rule, fake applications have poor-quality design, contain a lot of advertising and useless content. In addition, they can request users to access data that is not required for the application to work, Morev warned.
To protect yourself from downloading such programs, you first need to pay attention to the name of the application: there should be no extra characters. Also, before downloading, the specialist advised to study user reviews. "If they are negative, then it is better not to download this application. Extremely positive assessments should also alert you, since this may be cheating," Morev said.
Those who have encountered a fraudulent application should delete it and run a full scan of the device with an antivirus, the expert added.
Earlier, Maria Fesenko, an information security specialist at the Security Code company, told how iPhone owners can protect their devices from hacking. In particular, she recommended enabling two-factor Apple ID authentication.
