OREANDA-NEWS As a result of a sharp cooling at the weekend in some regions of the European part of Russia, sleet could fall. "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" writes with reference to the head of the department of short-term weather forecasts of the country's Hydrometeorological Center, Alexander Golubev.

According to him, a cooling of 4–7 degrees below normal is expected in central Russia from the Kola Peninsula to the Middle Volga, and 8–10 degrees lower in the Urals and the Upper Volga. Golubev added that in the Far North, snow in the middle of summer is not uncommon.

The arctic air will also reach the southern regions, with the result that the heat will subside and the temperature will become more comfortable, the forecaster said.

Earlier it was reported that Russians bought warm clothes and refused beer and ice cream because of the cold summer of 2019.

The cause of the July cold weather in Russia was global climate change. According to Vladimir Semenov, climatologist of the Russian Academy of Sciences, such regimes of long-lasting heat or coolness are often established when the climate warms, and, most likely, the likelihood of such events will increase in the future.
