On the ISS will Create Artificial Gravity Using a Centrifuge
OREANDA-NEWS. Specialists of the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IMBP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia plan to test a centrifuge on the ISS to create artificial gravity installed on the transformable module. This was announced on Wednesday by Oleg Orlov, the director of IMBP RAS.
For a long time, Russian scientists and engineers hatched plans to create and send a centrifuge to orbit in order to gain gravity in space. It is no secret that astronauts have to spend several hours a day on sports at special simulators, so that their muscles do not atrophy in weightlessness. Creating a small, even microgravity would allow astronauts to spend less time on the treadmill, and pay more attention to scientific experiments and other matters, of which there are always enough on board the ISS.
It became known on the eve that Russian scientists are working on the creation of a short-radius centrifuge to create microgravity on board a new orbital module.
The module was planned to be included in the Russian orbital station, which could later change the ISS.
