Six cities in the Irkutsk region, three cities in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and two regional capitals were included in the list of Russian cities with the dirtiest air at the end of 2020, from the newcomers to the list - Kansk and Vikhorevka, according to the draft state report "On the state and environmental protection of the Russian Federation ".
As specified in the document, five cities in Siberia left the list of cities with the highest air pollution, thanks to warm winters and high rainfall.
According to the table given in the draft report, the list of cities with the highest air pollution included six cities in the Irkutsk region - Vikhorevka, Zima, Svirsk, Usolye-Sibirskoye, Cheremkhovo and Shelekhov, three cities in the Krasnoyarsk Territory - Kansk, Minusinsk and Norilsk, the capital of Tuva Kyzyl, the city of Selenginsk in Buryatia and the capital of this republic Ulan-Ude, as well as Chita and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The document explains that Vikhorevka was included in the list after measurements of the content of benzopyrenes in the air began there, and in Kansk this winter, emissions of solid substances and carbon monoxide increased by 40% compared to 2019.
According to the observation network, the air in Norilsk is still the dirtiest. Scientists have carried out an assessment of the deposition of sulfur with precipitation with established values of the critical load on the environment. Wet precipitation of sulfite sulfur in Norilsk exceeded the critical load by two times.
