LUKOIL is testing biodiesel from algae at a refinery in Bulgaria

OREANDA-NEWS PJSC LUKOIL is exploring opportunities for the development and production of new energy products. This is stated in the group's sustainability report for 2022.
According to the document, a project for the experimental production of third-generation biofuels (biodiesel and SAF "green" jet fuel) has been developed at a refinery in Bulgaria jointly with a partner, which is based on the AlgenCrude product obtained from algae.
Another project – for the production of pyrolysis oil – was developed jointly with the Municipality of Burgas and prepared for the experimental stage.
In Finland, Teboil Green+ fuel, made entirely from waste and residual raw materials, has become available to retail and small wholesale customers. "The carbon footprint of the product is 90% less compared to traditional fuel," explains NK.
Before that, Teboil Green+ was available only for direct container deliveries (the minimum volume is 2 thousand liters), but in 2022 it began to arrive at Teboil gas stations in three cities of the country. "Now customers can refuel directly at the gas station or buy it in portable cans," the company clarifies.
At the refinery in Italy, which LUKOIL sold in the spring of 2023, last year the first batches of biodiesel fuel were produced with the addition of palm oil by-products, trial launches of a hydrotreating plant for processing renewable and mineral fuels were carried out.
