Large Hadron Collider will Heat Houses
OREANDA-NEWS. The CERN leadership signed an agreement with officials of the French commune Ferney-Voltaire on the use of hot water from the Large Hadron Collider for heating residential houses, according to the CERN website.
The largest car in the world is capable of operating at temperatures lower than in space. BAK produces a lot of heat. For example, hot water coming out of the contour of the collider is heated to 30 ° C. Now CERN plans to heat nearby houses with the warmth of a collider. The first will be the new d’aménagement Concerte residential zone, it will have an integrated geothermal energy system.
It is assumed that these houses will use thermal energy, obtained mainly from geothermal sources. Part of the heat will be redirected to the underground network of pipelines, from where, when the need arises, it can be lifted up to heat homes and industrial premises.
Part of the water from the collider will also be supplied to the same system, which will reduce the turnover of fossil fuels and, consequently, carbon dioxide emissions. Indeed, many different systems and installations that make up the LHC are cooled with the help of large amounts of water, the temperature of which at the outlet of the circuit reaches 30 degrees Celsius, which makes it possible to use it as secondary heat.
