OREANDA-NEWS. The lockdowns that were introduced in Europe and the USA in the spring of 2020 showed little effectiveness. This measure reduced the death rate from coronavirus by 0.2%, but hit the economy hard and exacerbated social problems. This conclusion was made by experts at Johns Hopkins University, reports on Wednesday, February 2, Fox News.
The authors of the study believe that the lockdown policy can be considered unreasonable. Scientists have proposed abandoning it as a tool to fight the pandemic.
According to experts, self-isolation of patients with coronavirus showed higher efficiency. It allowed to reduce mortality from COVID-19 by 2.9%. At the same time, self-isolation could increase the tense situation in families, and also deprived the sick of the opportunity to visit open areas, such as parks and beaches, the 360 TV channel reports.
Scientists emphasized that lockdowns provoked an increase in unemployment, reduced the quality of the educational process among schoolchildren and students. Also against their background, cases of domestic violence and drug overdose have increased.
Earlier in the day, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that so far Russia has no plans to introduce quarantine, lockdown or other emergency measures to counter the spread of coronavirus. She noted that Russia has proven anti-epidemic measures and diagnostic tools that will help to somewhat reduce the growing number of cases, RT reports.
