In the Philippines found worms feeding on stones
OREANDA-NEWS. Earlier not studied species of the worms eating calcareous breeds was found In the Abatan River on the island of Bohol (Philippines). Scientists from Northeastern University (USA) found out that individuals have teeth in the form of the pallet, and intestines are longer, than at other species of worms.
The mouth of the found look is intended for grinding of rocks. Presumably, worms eat stones for simplification of digestion of plankton. The exact reason of such food behavior, scientists did not establish.
This species of worms received the name Lithoredo abatanica. The habitat of individuals it is similar to norms which build mollusks tricks.
