OREANDA-NEWS The Tagansky court of Moscow fined Google 3.5 million rubles for a new episode related to the violation of the so-called law on self-control of social networks.

"To find Google LLC guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (failure by the owner of a social network to fulfill the obligation to monitor and (or) take measures to restrict access to information), he was sentenced to an administrative fine of 3.5 million rubles," Judge Alexandra Anokhina announced the decision.

As stated in the case materials announced in court, the reason for the fine was Google's refusal to restrict access to publications containing information about drinking alcohol and smoking.

Since February 2021, the law on self-control of social networks has been in force in the Russian Federation, according to which platforms are obliged to independently identify and block illegal content. In 2023, amendments to the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation were adopted, according to which social networks face fines of up to 8 million rubles for non-compliance with the requirements of this law.
