OREANDA-NEWS  The research work on the creation of a vaccine against smallpox in monkeys in Russia has actually been completed, its preclinical trials may take 6-7 months, Alexander Ginzburg, director of the Gamalei Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told RIA Novosti.

"The research (research work) has actually been completed and we are waiting for who will finance the clinic, since this is a lot of money, we cannot do this ourselves," Ginzburg said. He also noted that preclinical testing of the vaccine may take 6-7 months, while the timing of clinical trials is still unknown.

"I can still say how long the preclinical trials will take. It will take 6-7 months," Ginsburg said.

Vaccination is planned to be prescribed to the environment of a monkey pox patient, as well as to persons with suspected possible infection.
