OREANDA-NEWS German experts do not plan to resume the operation of their eROSITA telescope at the Russian space observatory "Spektr-RG". This was stated by Walter Peltzer, Director General of the German Space Agency at the German Center for Aviation and Astronautics (DLR).
"We do not want to continue cooperation on the eROSITA project, but we definitely support and continue our joint work on the ISS," Peltzer said during the center's annual press conference.
He noted that the work of the eROSITA telescope was suspended because cooperation on the Spektr-RG observatory was conducted within the framework of a bilateral agreement with Russia, while other countries are also involved in the ISS project.
As reported, on February 26, 2022, the German Space Agency notified Roscosmos of its intention to turn off its telescope at the Spektr-RG Russian orbital observatory.
On July 13, 2022, the scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Lev Zeleny, stressed that specialists from the Russian Federation would not be able to operate a German telescope.
