OREANDA-NEWS Specialists from the Russian Medical Research Center for Transplantology and Artificial organs named after Academician V.I. Shumakov helped colleagues from Uzbekistan to perform liver transplantation in a child for the first time in the republic, the press service of the Uzbek Ministry of Health reports.
According to the press service, liver transplantation was performed for the first time in a 15-year-old patient at the Children's National Medical Center.
"This high-tech operation was performed in collaboration with surgeons and transplantologists of the center and leading specialists of the Academician V.I. Shumakov Center for Transplantation and Artificial Organs," the message posted on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Health says.
As a result, the child, who was diagnosed with chronic liver failure and autoimmune hepatitis, got rid of the pain, the report says. "Liver transplantation is a very rare operation. It is especially difficult to do it with children. The patient is feeling well now. The necessary medical procedures are continuing under the supervision of doctors," the press service added.
