OREANDA-NEWS. The coronavirus epidemic in Russia may end by August - many citizens will have immunity by this time. Such a forecast was given to RIA Novosti by Viktor Maleev, advisor to the director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to him, due to the seasonality of the virus, the incidence of COVID-19 in the summer will greatly decrease.

The expert added that "there may be isolated cases of the disease or even hundreds, but this is not so significant on a national scale."

At the same time, he noted that a new rise in morbidity is possible by the fall, as people will begin to return from vacations and will more often contact each other.

On March 31, the Ministry of Health said that in recent weeks the situation with the coronavirus in the country is improving, but in order to prevent the third wave, it is necessary to observe anti-epidemic measures and get vaccinated.

More than 4.5 million cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Russia, more than 98 thousand patients have died. The largest daily increase in the incidence was recorded in December - this figure was close to 30 thousand, then the incidence began to decline. Over the past day, 8275 new cases were recorded.
