OREANDA-NEWS Taking into account the peculiarities of traveling on an airplane, some airlines even require medical certificates confirming that the patient is currently able to cope with the flight.
For example, if a person has vein problems, then traveling by plane, especially for more than 4 hours, increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Sitting on an airplane for a long time can cause swelling in legs.
This increases the likelihood of blood clots and this is why doctors usually recommend wearing compression stockings.
When it is contraindicated to travel by plane:
- angina pectoris or chest pain at rest;
- any active infectious disease;
- increased intracranial pressure due to bleeding, injury, or infection;
- infections of the sinuses of the nose, ear;- recent myocardial infarction and stroke. With uncomplicated myocardial infarction, you can fly by plane in a week, and with complicated infarction - after 4-6 weeks. The time depends on the severity of the illness and the duration of the trip;
- recent surgery or injury in which air or gas can press on organs. Usually these are abdominal injuries and operations on the stomach and intestines, craniofacial and eye injuries, operations on the brain and eyes with penetration into the eyeball;
- severe chronic respiratory diseases, dyspnea at rest or pneumothorax;
- sale cell anemia is a hereditary disease associated with a change in the form of blood hemoglobin;
- mental illness, except when it is controlled;- it is worth flying with caution for those who have had diving experience in the last 12 hours. If several dives are planned, it is better to plan them in such a way that after the last session at least a day passes before the flight.
In addition, experts do not recommend flying for pregnant women over 36 weeks, as well as newborns under one month of age.
