OREANDA-NEWS  The production of vaccines against coronavirus in the European Union is growing and even exceeding expectations. This information was reported by the European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides.

In the first quarter, the European Union experienced difficulties in supplying vaccines against coronavirus. Four drugs are currently licensed centrally across the EU: from Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. Despite the incidents with AstraZeneca and J&J, the European Commissioner says all four vaccines are safe and effective.

Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic said this week that the epidemiological situation remains difficult in many EU countries, but soon it may change for the better thanks to vaccination.

He also noted that the supply of vaccines to the EU, which slowed down in the first quarter, will grow significantly in the second. According to him, the EU may receive about 250 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, 35 million doses of Moderna and 70 million AstraZeneca. This will mean that 355 million doses of vaccines with the introduction of two injections will be delivered by the end of June, he concluded.

The J&J vaccine is administered in a single dose, Sefcovic did not specify how much of this drug the EU will receive in the coming months.
