China to send mission to Earth's quasi-satellite

OREANDA-NEWS In May 2025, China plans to send a mission to the asteroid (469219) Kamoaleva, which is one of the quasi-satellites of the Earth. This is reported by the China Daily newspaper.
The Tianwen-2 mission plans to take soil samples from an asteroid located at a distance of 14.5 million kilometers from the planet. Scientists also hope to find out whether Kamoaleva is a fragment of the Moon.
The expected duration of the mission is 2.5 years.
After dropping the capsule with asteroid samples to Earth, the Tianwen-2 station will head to comet 311P/PANSTARRS.
On June 25, China delivered soil from the far side of the Moon to Earth for the first time in the history of mankind. The Chang'e-6 capsule with the soil of the Chinese Chang'e-6 automatic interplanetary station has successfully landed at the site of Siqiwanqi in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
