The observed decline in the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia will continue, and in the future people will not even pay attention to outbreaks of coronavirus, said Petr Chumakov, chief researcher at the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology, Doctor of Biology. At the same time, according to him, an increase in the incidence is possible in two to three months, when a different strain will circulate, and collective immunity will weaken, writes Lenta.Ru.

I think [the increase will be] small, because people who have already been ill will not be seriously ill, they will most likely be asymptomatic. <…> If you have already encountered this virus, then next time you will endure it like a common cold,” Chumakov explained.

Earlier it was reported that the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Russia increased by 13,947 over the day, to 17,926,104. In absolute terms, the increase was the lowest since June 16, 2021.

Before that, it became known that the incidence of coronavirus in the Russian Federation for the week from March 28 to April 3 decreased by 25.6%. Also, the headquarters said that today there is a decrease in the number of hospitalizations in 55 regions. At the same time, an increase in the number of citizens admitted to hospitals occurred in eight regions, and the incidence increased in three constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
