Artificial Cells that Respond to External Influence are Created

OREANDA-NEWS Artificial cells can be used to test chemicals and as an indicator of the state of the environment. However, it is not so easy to teach them to “feel”, because for this it is necessary to imitate the complex and multi-stage chemical reactions that take place in real cells.
This mechanism is just a significantly truncated version of the real molecular path. Unlike real cells, artificial ones do not need to regulate many aspects, for example dispose of toxic by-products. This has greatly simplified the reaction.
According to scientists, the artificial molecular path is “assembled” from natural components. For example, one of the enzymes that react to calcium ions is taken from bee venom. However, in nature these elements are not found in such combinations.
A new way of studying cells was presented by researchers from Switzerland. They developed a three-dimensional microscope that allows to look inside the cell without damaging it.
