S&P Global CFO Jack F. Callahan ’80 named Yale’s senior vice president for operations
OREANDA-NEWS. Jack F. Callahan Jr., a member of the Yale College Class of 1980, will serve as the university’s senior vice president for operations, President Peter Salovey announced in a campus-wide email on June 3. The alumnus will take up his Yale post in August, before the start of the new academic year.
Callahan, who earned a B.A. at Yale and a M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth in 1986, has held leadership positions at a number of major global organizations. He began his career in the New York and London offices of McKinsey and Company; held roles of increasing responsibility at General Electric, PepsiCo, and Dean Foods; and is currently executive vice president and chief financial officer of S&P Global (formerly McGraw Hill Financial), in New York City. He also was a member of the board of directors of MetroPCS.
“Throughout his professional endeavors, Jack has been an exemplar of the excellence and innovative spirit that are synonymous with a Yale education,” said Salovey. “His colleagues at S&P Global hail his tenure at the company as transformative, citing his commitment to sustainable growth and his leadership in fostering a culture of shared commitment to the organization’s values. As we continue to build a Yale that is ever more unified around its core mission of education and research, Jack’s deep understanding of the university and exceptional organizational acumen will be invaluable.”
The President noted that creating the new post of senior vice president for operations — the university’s chief operating officer — is part of the effort to better align Yale’s administrative structure in support of the university’s core mission. “As senior vice president, reporting to the president, Jack will bring the kind of consolidated oversight to our business operations other than those that report to Bruce Alexander or Mike Peel,” Salovey wrote.
Callahan grew up in New Haven, and many members of his extended family live in the area, including his parents and his sister M.J., who works in financial planning at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He and his wife, April, who holds a B.A. from Baylor University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, have three children: Ryan, 19, who attends the University of Notre Dame; Kate, 18, who is graduating from New Canaan High School this month and will enter Notre Dame in the fall; and Carey, 16, a sophomore at New Canaan High School.
“Please join me in extending Jack Callahan a very warm welcome back to Yale,” Salovey concluded.
