OREANDA-NEWS Scientists at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, have discovered an antibody that can protect against all strains of coronavirus. The results of the study are published on the website of the university.
During the experiment, experts studied 43 samples and analyzed their ability to protect cells from infection. Nine of the most promising were then tested on mice, after which the two most effective ones were selected.
Scientists have found that the antibody SARS2-38 can fight both common variants of the coronavirus and rarer mutations — it binds to the part of the virus's spike protein that remains unchanged.
Experts distinguish a high neutralizing ability at low concentration among the unique properties of SARS2-38 as well as an effect on all variants of the causative agent of infection.
This discovery, according to the authors of the study, will allow for the rapid and reliable treatment of patients with COVID-19. They emphasize that the best results can be achieved with combination therapy.
As it was written earlier, a new study conducted in the UK found that two doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca are effective in preventing infection with the Delta strain of the coronavirus. According to the results of the study, two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca effectively protect against both the Delta strain of coronavirus and the Alpha strain.
