OREANDA-NEWS Testing of a new method for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease will begin this week at Sechenov University, doctors will assess the condition of patients by the concentration of biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid, the press service of the university told RIA Novosti.
"Testing of a modern method of diagnosing Alzheimer's disease will start on April 26, 2023 at the A.Ya. Kozhevnikov Clinic of Nervous Diseases of the Sechenov University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation," the report says.
Men and women over 35 years of age with mild to moderate cognitive impairment or with a memory disorder are invited to participate in the study, the press service said. Doctors will assess the condition of patients by the concentration of biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid, the university explained. Now the diagnosis of "Alzheimer's disease" is made only based on the results of cognitive testing and MRI data. The new technique can improve the accuracy of the diagnosis of the disease and will allow for a differential diagnosis with other neurodegenerative diseases, which will allow the patient to be prescribed targeted therapy, the press service noted.
