OREANDA-NEWS. In China, the number of cases of coronavirus infection has doubled due to a new outbreak in the south-east of the country. The National Health Commission has identified 59 new episodes of infection in Fujian Province, compared with 22 episodes the day before. This is reported by Reuters.
It is noted that in four days, 102 cases of infection were registered in three cities of Fujian, including Xiamen. The outbreak began in the city of Putian. Preliminary tests of the samples showed that the patients were infected with the «delta» strain.
The Chinese authorities said that the zero patient, according to preliminary information, is a man who recently returned from Singapore. He developed symptoms after completing a two-week quarantine and an initial negative test for coronavirus. Currently, city-wide testing for coronavirus infection is taking place in Putian and Xiamen, but so far the local authorities have not announced strict restrictions.
Earlier, experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) put forward a version that the coronavirus could have entered Wuhan on packages with frozen products. Experts suggested that the World Health Organization (WHO) check the employees of frozen food transportation companies who transported goods to Wuhan in December 2019.
