A Child with Antibodies to COVID-19 was Born in Bulgaria
OREANDA-NEWS. According to the Bulgarian National Radio, a woman in Bulgaria gave birth to a child with antibodies to COVID-19.
A 28-year-old woman from the town of Pazardzhik was reportedly hospitalized with a fever and cough during pregnancy. She was diagnosed with a coronavirus infection.
By the decision of the doctors, the woman underwent a caesarean section, as the virus caused changes in the placenta and slowed down the development of the fetus. After a successful operation, a baby weighing 2.75 kilograms and 46 centimeters tall was born.
The newborn was given a test that showed the presence of antibodies to COVID-19. At the same time, the child is completely healthy, he and his mother are planning to soon be discharged from the hospital.
Earlier, in November, the case of the birth of a child with antibodies in a mother who had had a coronavirus was reported by the Singapore media.
Earlier, Anna Simakova, chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Primorsky Territory, told RIA Novosti that the direct route of infection with coronavirus - from mother to child - has not yet been proven. Simakova noted that antibodies that are in the mother's body are always transmitted to a child at birth, they circulate in him for up to a year. In a patient with a coronavirus, antibodies are formed in the body, but you need to look at what period of pregnancy a woman got sick.
