Basic Investment Projects of RUSAL in 2006
OREANDA-NEWS. In 2006, RUSAL acquired a 77.5% stake in the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), which includes a 195,000-tonne smelter. The transaction amounted to US$250 million.
According to the press service of the company, RUSAL reached an agreement with the Government of Guyana to privatise the Republic’s leading miner Aroaima Mining Company (AMC). This project will raise RUSAL’s total bauxite production capacity to 8.7 million tonnes in 2008. RUSAL’s total investment in expanding and modernising AMC’s production will total US$20 million.
RUSAL acquired a cathode plant located in Linshi, Shanxi province, north-eastern China with annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes of cathode blocks which will cover approximately 50% of the company's demand.
In 2006, RUSAL completed a large-scale modernisation of the ARMENAL foil mill in Armenia. Currently, ARMENAL is one of the most advanced foil mills in the world, and overall investment exceeded US$70 million.
RUSAL and HYDROGOK (a 100% subsidiary of RAO Unified Energy Systems of Russia) signed a cooperation agreement to construct the Boguchanskaya energy and metals complex. This will include a 3,000 MW Hydro Power Plant and the construction of 600 000 tonnes per annum aluminium smelter in the Krasnoyarsk region. The cost of completing the project is estimated at US$3.6 billion.
RUSAL acquired 56.2% stake in EurAllumina refinery in Italy.
RUSAL launched the first starter complex of the Khakas Aluminium Smelter (KhAZ) with the planned capacity of 300,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum. The overall investment into the project totalled US$750 million.
