VSW Modernizes Transport Infrastructure Before Commissioning of Its New Facilities
OREANDA-NEWS. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), has modernized and commissioned Railroad Station No. 1 and Vyksa Trubnaya Station. This has completed Phase One of the Company's Rail Access Reconstruction Project, launched by VSW in April 2006.
According to the press service of OMK, in 2007, three more stations are to be reconstructed under the Project, with the total investment to exceed 800 million rubles. In total, the VSW Rail Workshop has 8 railroad stations.
The reconstruction program involves the lengthening of lines at all the stations, the installation of lines with mechanized sorting facilities with the capacity of 1,600 cars a day, the implementation of automated traffic control systems, and the electrification of track switches.
The development of the VSW transport infrastructure is connected with the modernization of existing production and the commissioning of new facilities. In late 2007, the OMK Foundry and Rolling Facility Phase One, with the capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, will be launched. In 2008, the capacity of the large-diameter pipe production will reach 2 million tonnes. Wide-Sheet Mill 5000, with the capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, will be put into operation in 2010.
