Vyksa Steel Works Completes Reconstruction of MD Oil and Gas Pipe Mill
OREANDA-NEWS. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has completed reconstruction of the electric-weld pipe mill in the workshop for the production of oil and gas pipes (EWPW 3) of the VSW complex for medium diameter pipes (MDP complex). The project was implemented within 18 months, with the investments exceeding 455 million rubles.
The reconstruction involved the replacement of outdated equipment by the new welding and molding equipment manufactured by SMS Meer, Germany. The vacuum-tube welder was replaced by a solid-state welder of the Weldac G2 series produced by EFD Induction, Norway. The new equipment will make it possible to adjust the mill stands to coiled stock of various thicknesses, perform high quality welding of enhanced grade (up to Kh70) pipes with the wall thickness of up to 12.7 mm, and reduce the costs related to the production of pipe of new standard sizes.
The EWP mill reconstruction project is a part of the integrated MDP complex reconstruction project, which implementation started in 2004. When the project is fully implemented, VSW will have a state-of-the-art high-tech production of medium diameter oil and gas pipes (annual capacity: 450 thousand tonnes). Such pipes will be produced according to corporate standards of international energy companies, as well as ISO and API.
