OREANDA-NEWS The tourist flow from the Middle East to Moscow has recovered by more than 50% after the pandemic, and the economic contribution of these travelers to the tourism industry of the Russian capital is growing even faster and already shows 85% of the level of 2019, the press service of the capital's tourism committee told RIA Novosti.
The press service noted that Moscow is developing international tourism and cooperation with major foreign destinations. The first business missions abroad this year were conducted in Kuwait and the UAE, bringing together more than 20 Moscow and over 190 foreign travel companies. More than 4,2 thousand negotiations were held within the framework of business missions.
"Business missions are an important tool for interaction with priority regions and increasing the international tourist flow to the Russian capital. In 2023, the number of visitors from the Middle East approached the pre-pandemic figures of a record 2019. The recovery is 50%. At the same time, the economic contribution of these travelers to the tourism industry of the capital is growing even faster and already shows 85% of the level of 2019," the committee said.
The press service said that during the presentation of Moscow's opportunities, the main areas of tourism that may be of interest to Middle Eastern travelers when visiting the capital were discussed - for example, vacation options for group and family trips. Representatives of the capital's tourism industry noted that they offer Middle Eastern guests a variety of packages, including with an emphasis on entertainment and special attention to gastronomy.
"The delegation members also stressed the sincere interest of tourists from Kuwait and the UAE in trips to Moscow and other Russian cities, to explore their picturesque places. Moscow experts also saw a lively response from their Middle Eastern colleagues, and some companies have already received offers of cooperation. The participants of the business mission expressed confidence that tourism relations between Moscow and the Persian Gulf countries will continue to develop successfully," the ministry said.
Mosturism noted that representatives of foreign companies also assessed the prospects for cooperation with the Russian capital.
"The development of tourism cooperation between Moscow and the countries of the Middle East is already bearing fruit. By the end of 2023, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait exceeded the pre-pandemic indicators," the press service added.
