The Oscar for Best Film Went to the Drama «Nomadland»
OREANDA-NEWS. The 93rd Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards Ceremony was held in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 25. The drama «Nomadland» was named the best film. It tells about an American woman, who decided to move around the United States in a van and lead a nomadic lifestyle after the death of her husband and the loss of her job.
Chloe Zhao also won an Oscar for Best Director. She became the second woman in the history of the award, after Katherine Bigelow, to receive an award in this category. And Frances McDormand won the Best Actress award for her role in film.
The Oscar for best actor in a leading role went to Anthony Hopkins for his role in the drama «The Father». The award for best original screenplay was won by the British Emirald Fennel for the thriller «Promising Young Woman». The award for best adapted screenplay was shared by Briton Christopher Hampton and Frenchman Florian Zeller for the drama «The Father».
The best foreign language film was the comedy-drama picture of the Dane Thomas Vinterberg «Druk». The best documentary film is the work «My Octopus Teacher» about the observation of a representative of this order of cephalopods off the coast of the Republic of South Africa.
The best supporting actor was recognized by the British Daniel Kaluuya, who played in the biographical drama «Judas and the Black Messiah». This film won the award for best song. And Yoon Yejong won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the drama «Minari» about South Korean immigrants in the United States.
