OREANDA-NEWS The Yakut keeper of the cold, Chyshaan, will light the lights of the country's first Christmas tree on December 1. This was stated by the Minister of Entrepreneurship, Trade and Tourism of the Republic Timur Khandy, RIA Novosti reports.

The event is held annually as part of the "Winter Begins in Yakutia" festival. In 2023, the keeper of the cold, Chyshaan, handed over the symbol of cold — the staff — to Santa Claus from Veliky Ustyug. However, this year the wizard will not be able to participate in the event.

Earlier it became known that the majority of Russians (67 percent) spend up to 3,000 rubles on decorating a house or apartment for the New Year. Another 18 percent are used to paying from 4 to 5 thousand rubles for jewelry, 6 percent — from 6 to 10 thousand rubles, 4 percent — from 10 to 15 thousand rubles, and 5 percent — more than 15 thousand rubles.
