OREANDA-NEWS. British actor David Suchet, known for his role as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, has been knighted. The knighthood ceremony was held at Windsor Castle, reports the Daily Mail.
As previously reported, the induction ceremony was supposed to take place back in December, but was postponed because the actor tested positive for coronavirus.
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, awarded the order in recognition of the actor's services to drama and charity. In the British honours system, the Order of Knight Bachelor is only awarded to men: the honorary title means a person is knighted by the monarch, but does not imply he is a member of the organised chivalric orders of the United Kingdom.
"I'm very proud and at the same time stiffened after the Duke of Cambridge knighted me today at Windsor Castle,"- Souchet shared on Twitter.
The British actor's career began in the 1960s, when Souchet appeared in television shows and TV series. World fame actor brought the role of the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in the detective series Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989-2013).
David Souchet is a Fellow of the British Academy of Film and Television and a five-time BAFTA nominee. In 2011 he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
