OREANDA-NEWS The domestic e-book market has returned to its previous growth rates: in the third quarter of 2023, it added 31 percent, increasing to 3.3 billion rubles. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to Sergey Anuryev, CEO of Litres Group of Companies.
The growth was due to an increase in the number of subscriptions to book services, audiobooks and samizdat, the expert stressed. According to market participants, the rise in price of printed products also played a role.
For example, buying a novel by writer Viktor Pelevin in print today will cost an average of 1,000 rubles, while the digital version of the book will cost twice as much, the source of the publication on the market gave an example. According to his forecasts, the volume of sales of digital books will increase in the future.
By the end of 2023, the volume of the e-book market will grow by 13-15 percent, amounting to 12.5 billion rubles, Anuryev predicted.
Bookmate also reported a more than twofold increase in revenue in July-September. The company explained this by the growth of the audience and the release of new works.
Russian publishers talked about the rise in price of book production in September 2022. Some of them thought about the possible transfer of the printing process to Iran and India. The press service of the Ministry of Finance then noted that there was no shortage of printing facilities by this time, and the situation had stabilized.
At the same time, at the beginning of 2023, a decline in the interest of Russians in digital books was reported. Despite the preservation of the previous prices in this segment, the drop over the past year was about 20 percent, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the aggregator Price.ru .
